The only negative criticism I see this game get is from the very, very small subset of r/pcmr enthusiasts who absolutely cannot handle pop-in or bugs. And it's the only game (ever) that my wife has sat and watched me play daily for hours. The sense of wonder, exploration, and excitement reminded me of the first time I picked up Morrowind. I had gotten burnt-out on the AAA market and esports and online toxicity.Then this game came along. I know this sounds hyperbolic, but Subnautica reignited the child-like delight that I used to have with gaming. I've been singing it's praises to everyone who will listen.įor what it's lacks in AAA polish, it makes up exponentially in charm and spirit. It was my 2018 game of the year, no question.
